Spelling and Reading words

I have sent home spelling words today. Please see the note on the inside as it explains the practice method I would like you to use. Children who are still building up a bank of reading words have a list that should be put onto cue cards and practiced each night. Any questions, please see me:)

Inquiry Challenge

One of our inquiry challenges we have completed is the Newspaper Challenge. In groups of around three the children had to construct a tower that was taller than the book shelf using only newspaper. First we had a go doing the challenge with our buddy class. Only one group succeeded. The following day we had another go as a class. It was interesting to see who replicated the successful designs from the day before, who persevered with the challenge, who worked with others to problem solve or worked alone and beside their group member, and who lost interest and didn't persevere. We had a good discussion afterwards about what made it a challenge and the nature of challenges.

Matilda's Writing

Matilda was very focused at writing time last week and wrote for an hour! She wrote six pages and was very proud of herself. Her story was about picking flowers and observing butterflies in her garden. She did a great job of approximating the spelling of tricky words. Well done Matilda!

Class Scientists

Matilda found lots of snails in her garden and Caleb found a huge Weta! They were very fun to look at! Matilda and Caleb did a great job explaining their natural discoveries.
